What to Watch (Week of 8/29)

September is almost here! And that means pretty soon my TV line up is going to be obnoxiously overwhelmingly wonderfully chock-full of fantastic shows. If you haven't done so yet, check out my post on the Fall 2011 Premiere dates and the shows that I'll be tuning in to.

Monday, August 29th
The Italian Job (movie) (AMC) 8pm
Gossip Girl (rerun) (The CW) 8pm | One of the few episodes I liked this season.
One Tree Hill(rerun) (The CW) 9pm | I love how they named the episode "Flightless Bird, American Mouth" as in the song by Iron & Wine and made the story extremely relevant to the title. Though I don't recall them every playing the song, which would be an epic fail. So I'll watch again to see. Did I over-explain that?

Tuesday, August 30th
Love & Basketball (movie) (BET) 7:30pm | This was my Varsity girls bball team's favorite movie to watch.

I Can't Wait For...Underworld: Awakening

As you probably already know by now, considering my TV and movie-viewing habits, I do like Sci-Fi. I especially like Vampire/Werewolf/Supernaturaly Sci-Fi.  Examples include: Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, True Blood, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Twilight (so sue me, I love the books okay! and the last movie wasn't so bad) and Underworld. No not Blade...I do not like Wesley Snipes.

All that being said, I am pretty pumped about the fourth installment in the Underworld Saga - Underworld: Awakening.

Background information:
Underworld (2003): Selene (Kate Beckinsale), a beautiful vampire warrior, is entrenched in a war between the vampire and werewolf (known as Lycans in the movie) races. When she comes across Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman) who holds the key to end the war she must decide where her allegiances will lie.

Underworld: Evolution (2006): Beginning where Underworld finished, Selene and Michael (now a lycan-vampire hybrid) are on the run from the vampires. The film goes back to the beginnings of the ancient feud between the two tribes the lovers try to unlock the secrets of their bloodlines.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009): This film is a prequel to the previous two films and is centered on the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires and their Lycan slaves.

Now for the main event!

Underworld: Awakening (January 20, 2012): Selene wakes up after 12 years and escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans, and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both immortal species.

Extra things you may need to know about the movie:
-IT WILL BE RELEASED IN 3D | That should come as a surprise to no one considering almost everything is being released in 3D these days.
-SCOTT SPEEDMAN IS RUMORED TO RETURN AS MICHAEL | When I first heard the this movie was coming out, the first thing I checked for if Speedman would be returning, and to my dismay, IMDB did not have him listed and I couldn't find any news on it anywhere online. But, as you will see in the trailer, Selene asks about Michael, and BOOM! Scott Speedman is rumored to be in the film on IMDB. Though I rumor is not a confirmation, I am happy about it. 
-TRIVIA: The movie was originally titled Underworld: New Dawn, but they thought that was too close to The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.

Movie(s) of the Month...Pride & Prejudice and Jane Eyre

You got me. I'm a hopeless romantic. I mean come on. I even unlocked the "Hopeless Romantic" sticker on GetGlue from "checking" into so many romance books, TV shows, and movies. *Note: Click on the GetGlue for my blog post about this awesome social media medium. I can't help it, I'm a sucker for love stories. I'm an even bigger sucker for historical or period love stories. That being said, I'm a bigger sucker for classic love stories. My two favorite stories being Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. Not only are these two books I could read forever and ever, but I also read any and all retellings, sequels, and prequels of these books I can get my hands on.  But I'm not going to talk about the book versions of these stories.  And though there have been many feature films and made-for-TV-movies, I will only be talking about the two that, in my opinion, are the absolute best - and happen to be the most recently made.  Yes, you do have to get past some of the Old English language if you aren't used to it, but trust me, it is absolutely worth it.  I dare you to count how many times I say "love" in this post ;)

Pride & Prejudice (2005)
So first I will talk about my most favorite movie of all time: Pride & Prejudice. I know some people think its odd that a person as obsessed with movies as I am can have a favorite, but to me there is no question about it. Based, as I mentioned, on the Jane Austen novel and released in 2005 by Focus Features and directed by Joe Wright, stars Keira Knightley as the spirited Elizabeth Bennett who meets the single, rich, and proud Mr. Darcy, played by Matthew Macfadyen. Set in the 19th century, the story is based on Jane Austen's novel about five sisters - Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty and Lydia Bennet - in Georgian England. Their lives are turned upside down when a wealthy young man (Mr. Bingley) and his best friend (Mr. Darcy) arrive in their neighborhood. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards in 2006: Best Art Direction, Best Costume Design, Best Original Score, and Best Actress for Keira Knightley. Even the film's U.S. ending was ranked as one Entertainment Weekly's greatest movie endings of all time - we are special and get a special ending, which I also love. This is one of the greatest love stories of all-time, and will leave any girl watching, wanting their very own Mr. Darcy.

Jane Eyre (2011)
Also released by Focus Features, Jane Eyre was released only earlier this year and stars Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) as Jane and Michael Fassbender (300, Inglourious Basterds) as Rochester, and is directed by the young Cary Fukunaga, who definitely added a bit of a modernization to the classic, which I love. As I mentioned previously, the novel was written by Charlotte Brontë, sister of Emily Brontë who wrote Wuthering Heights. The story is about a poor and plain governess who softens the heart of her cold employer. Jane and Rochester grow close in friendship and she finds herself falling in love with him, but she soon discovers that he is hiding a terrible secret. Because of its recent release, they film has yet to be nominated for any awards, but I do not doubt it winning a few here and there. It seems movies made from classics like these, never get the attention they sometimes so deserve. And need I really say anymore after mentioning Fassbender? I think not. And having him play Rochester? Oh my goodness. Rochester has some of the best quotes in the book which are accurately scripted into the movie. Perfection *sigh*. This movie just came out on DVD last week so you must run out and buy both ASAP!

I Can't Wait For...New Year's Eve

I've known about this movie for awhile now, but for some reason, I kept forgetting to add it as a post. Well, you are in luck, because today I remembered! Yay! Hold applause please. Thank you.

Okay, let's start the countdown for New Year's Eve: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 -

New Year's Eve is an upcoming ensemble rom-com1 directed by Garry Marshall (the rom-com God). Apparently it was originally intended as the sequel to his 2010 film Valentine's Day, but that will not be the case, and even though Jessica Biel, Ashton Kutcher, and Héctor Elizondo are in both films, they will be playing different characters. Along with Biel, Kutcher, and Elizondo, the film will also star Robert De Niro, Katherine Heigl, Lea Michele,2 Abigail Breslin, Hilary Swank, Michelle Pfeiffer, Zac Efron, Sofia Vergara, Halle Berry, Sarah Jessica Parker, Josh Duhamel, Til Schweiger, Ryan Seacrest, Jon Bon Jovi, Ludacris, and Seth Meyers. It will also apparently star Greg Kinnear, Alyssa Milano, John Lithgow, John Stamos, Sienna Miller, Ice Cube, Julie Andrews, Frankie Muniz, and many others, but I did not see any of them in the trailer. But hey! That's way more actors than the last film!

New Year's Eve is scheduled for release by Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema on December 9, 2011.

What to Watch (Week of 8/8)

So, who watched the Teen Choice Awards last night? I must say that I was more impressed by the outcome of this award show than I was of the MTV Movie Awards the last spring. Twilight didn't actually win everything! Don't get me wrong, I am a Twilight fan, but I am a little tired of it taking over every single award. Though I was sad that Supernatural didn't win Choice TV Sci-fi/Fantasy, I was glad that it did go to my second favorite show, The Vampire Diaries. Also sad that Jared Padalecki and Paul Wesley didn't win TV Choice Male, but it did go to Ian Somerhalder (which I can't be upset about either). Glad that Michael Trevino and Kat Graham from The Vampire Diaries also won scene-stealer awards. Candice Accola should have been nominated too. I was super loving her this season on The Vampire Diaries. The one that I am most angry about is the TV Choice Villain award. Joseph Morgan (The Vampire Diaries) deserved that. Hands down. Really teens, Justin Bieber? I know you are all crazy-obsessed, but he was T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E in CSI!! Almost as bad as when Taylor Swift was on the show! I was very impressed with all your voting except for that one. And I absolutely loved the Harry Potter celebration at the end of the show as it took home a ton of awards including Liplock! Like I said, Twilight didn't win everything this time!

What to Watch (Week of 8/1)

Writing this week's post as I watch Supernatural, as I do almost every weekday morning this summer. Best. Show. Ever. Of course I also own all the seasons on DVD as well, but something makes it more special when I know I'm watching the same episode at the same time as a lot of other people. Maybe I just shared too much. Oh well. I've also been voting like crazy everyday these past few weeks for both Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries for the Teen Choice Awards (using my teen alter ego that filled out the age portion of the voting). If Joseph Morgan loses to Justin Bieber as Best Villian, I will punch something.
