I Can't Wait For...Romeo and Juliet

This movie popped up in my Twitter feed this afternoon and I couldn't wait to share it with you. There isn't much information yet on it, but what I've read so far, I like.

Carlo Carlei's Romeo and Juliet is due out in 2012, but with it only being in pre-production, that could be false. The best news is, is that it will star (rumored, but I hope its true) Paul Wesley (The Vampire Diaries) as Paris and Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl) as Tybalt.  These are two of my favorite CW men and I cannot wait to see them in a movie together! Fingers crossed!

Westwick, Wesley

The film will also star True Grit's Hailee Steinfield (as Juliet), The Pillars of the Earth's Douglas Booth (as Romeo), and Oscar winner Holly Hunter (as the Nurse).

The screenplay was written by Julian Fellowes and will be released by Amber Entertainment.

What to Watch (Week of 7/18)

Loved reading through this week's TV Guide to put together my list.  The reason? Well, the cover featured Alexander SkarsgĂ„rd, Joe Manganiello, and Stephen Moyer as True Blood's "Sexy Beasts." And I could not agree more! Out of the desire to ogle goodness of my heart, I've included the cover art below. The best thing is, is that its a double issue, so I get two weeks to look at it ;)

I Can't Wait For...Anna Karenina

I was working at the video store yesterday and decided I wanted to take home The Young Victoria to watch again, since I absolutely love historical/period romance movies.  Then, of course I started thinking of Pride and Prejudice, because as I said countless times before, it is my all-time favorite movie and love story.  So that then led me to check out what other movies Keira Knightley was working on.

Knightley, Wright, Macfadyen

To my pleasant surprise I discovered that she, Matthew Macfadyen (Mr. Darcy in P&P) and Joe Wright (Director of P&P) would be working together on Anna Karenina.  Yippee! Sadly, Keira and Matthew will be playing brother and sister this time (but hopefully that means a lot of scenes together).  Joining my favorite team will be Saoirse Ronan, who - as I mentioned in my "Movie of the Week" post - starred in Atonement with Keira.  More cast includes Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasley from the Harry Potter movies) and Jude Law.

The movie of course is based off the novel by Leo Tolstoy in which Anna is trapped in a loveless marriage and looks for a better life, but finds only a more complicated one.

Filming of the movie will start in September of this year, and the movie has yet to have a release date except for "sometime in" 2012.  I will be waiting on pins and needles!

GetGlue'd

I am a huge fan of social media, especially when it has to do with entertainment (i.e. my favorites being of course movies and television).  That being said, I am currently absolutely in love with GetGlue. I had the app added to my iPod Touch a long time ago, but because I could only use the app with wireless internet, I had kind of forgot about it. Then I found the app for my Blackberry, and dun dun dun dun, I have become addicted.

GetGlue is a service that helps you find your next favorite movie, book, music album or other every day things, and like Foursquare, "check-in" to those things, like Facebook, "like" or "dislike" those things, and like Twitter, follow people, have followers, and find out what they are interested in.

The unique aspect of GetGlue is their stickers. As you do certain things on GetGlue you will be rewarded with a variety of stickers for your efforts or achievements. They're a cool way for you to display to other Glue-ers what kinds of entertainment you like. Some stickers are unlocked once and stay on your profile forever, others are unlocked for a specific period of time. While it is clear how you can unlock some stickers, others are a bit mysterious and require you to figure out how to unlock them on your own. Some stickers can only be unlocked by checking-in on a specific day during a specific time - these stickers are limited and exclusive and will not be available outside of this window.1

What is so awesome about these stickers is that they can be redeemed on your stickers page for actual stickers!

What's also cool about GetGlue, and is a bit similar to Foursquare's "Mayorships", is a the title of Guru. GetGlue identifies users that are especially passionate about specific books, movies, music and more by awarding them the title of Guru. The Guru title is awarded to the individual who has the richest level of interaction for the given item, based on a point system that is described below. Each item can only have one Guru, so you’ll need to work for the honor, and be vigilant: other eager users can steal the title from you at any time!2

As I stated, I use both the iPod Touch app, the Blackberry app, and the web page for GetGlue, but there are many other apps available depending on your mobile phone.

I cannot wait to get my stickers mailed to me! This new service is in a tie right now with Twitter for me...and that is saying something!

Movie of the Month...Atonement

Okay, I don't know if I'm going to do this every week, but I just thought...why not give it a try.

I've been making a list of movies I want to catch-up on or re-watch again, as my DVD collection has grown rather large and some of these movies are gathering quite a bit of dust.

Focus Features
I thought to myself today, that it has been so long since I've watched ATONEMENT.

Based on the British romance novel by Ian McEwan and starring Keira Knightley, James McAvoy, Saoirse Ronan, and many others, the movie was nominated for seven Academy Awards in 2007, including Best Picture, and won the Oscar for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score - which I agree was completely well-deserved, as the music was phenomenal.

The movie is about a young writer Briony Tallis (Ronan) who irrevocably changes the course of several lives when she accuses her older sister's lover of a crime he did not commit.

Oh my goodness. I don't think I have ever cried harder in a movie. I think I cried harder watching it today, than I did the very first time I watched it. I absolutely love Joe Wright, the director of the film, who also directed my all-time favorite movie, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. The music, as I said is fantastic, and the actors do a phenomenal job playing such emotional roles. This movie is absolutely a must-see. But just make sure you have a box of tissues nearby.

Playing Catch-Up

As I stated in my last blog post, I planned on catching-up on a couple television series' that I heard good things about - Justified and White Collar.

So far, there is one season of Justified (currently finished its second season on FX Network) on DVD and two seasons of White Collar (currently in its third season on USA Network). I finished all three seasons of the shows combined in three days.

Justified, FX Networks
JUSTIFIED - Timothy Olyphant (that name alone ought to be enough to make anyone want to watch this show) plays U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, who is reassigned from Miami to his childhood home in the poor, rural coal-mining towns in Eastern Kentucky. To me, this show seems to be more of a "guy" show, but it does have enough romance to keep the girly me happy. Justified has also received some recognition lately in nominations from the Emmy Awards and the Television Critics Association Awards.

White Collar, USA Network
WHITE COLLAR - A white collar criminal (Matt Bomer) agrees to help the FBI (Tim DeKay and others) catch other white collar criminals using his expertise as an art and securities thief, counterfeiter and racketeer. This show has a little bit of everything. Crime, drama, romance, comedy...etc. No recognition from award shows, but definitely a fun show to watch.

I think, of the two, White Collar is more my favorite, but I will definitely continue watching both for a while.
