What to Watch (Week of 9/19)

Before I get into this week's TV schedule, I want to talk a little bit about last night's award show.

So, of course I watched the 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards last night. And though there were some odd moments (umm...who came up with the Emmytones idea?), overall I thought the night went okay. Jane Lynch did a great job in my opinion (though her opening segment was lacking), but her one-liners were hilarious. I'm just going to do a quick run-though of only those I was happy to see win. For a complete list you can check out Emmys 2011: And the Winner Are... - TV.com
-Modern Family really cleaned up with five awards including Best Supporting Actress Comedy - Julie Bowen; Best Supporting Actor Comedy - Ty Burrell; Outstanding Directing for Comedy Series; Outstanding Writing for Comedy Series; Best Comedy Series
-Jim Parsons won Best Actor Comedy for The Big Bang Theory, which I was so happy about. BBT has become one of my favorite sitcoms (along with Modern Family of course).
-Though I don't watch Mike & Molly, I was happy to see Melissa McCarthy take home Best Actress Comedy (and the pageant-like ceremony Amy Poehler kicked-off was hilarious).
-And Kate Winslet seems to be going for the EGOT1 with her win as Best Actress Miniseries/Movie for Mildrid Pierce. All she needs now is the Tony (calling Broadway!).
-Couple other quick notes include: Margo Martindale (Justified) - Best Supporting Actress Drama; Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) - Best Actor Drama; Guy Pearce (Mildred Pierce) - Best Supporting Actor Miniseries/Movie.

In other news, here are my choice for TV I'll be watching this week. I'm so incredibly happy that my weeks a head will be filling up even more!!

After It Airs (TVD 9/15)

The Vampire Diaries
Season 3 Episode 1 - The Birthday

Summary (courtesy of The CW Network):
On the morning of Elena's 18th birthday, Caroline is busy planning a party, but Elena is focused on searching for any clues that might help her discover where Stefan is. Damon is also searching for Stefan, while trying to protect Elena and keep her from doing anything that would draw Klaus' attention. Meanwhile, Klaus and Stefan are busy trailing a werewolf named Ray Sutton (guest star David Gallagher, "Super 8"). Now working at the Mystic Grill along with Matt , Jeremy is struggling to understand why he keeps seeing the ghosts of Vicki (guest star Kayla Ewell) and Anna (guest star Malese Jow) since he was brought back to life by Bonnie's magic. Meanwhile, Alaric does his best to watch over Elena and Jeremy, while dealing with his grief over Jenna's death. Finally, Caroline and Tyler face a new and unexpected challenge. John Behring directed the episode written by Kevin Williamson & Julie Plec.

New Comedy is First Broadcast Network Series to be Made Available on iTunes In Advance of Primetime Premiere
NEW GIRL Premieres Tuesday, September 20, 9pm EST on FOX

In the debut episode, JESS DAY (Deschanel) discovers her long-term boyfriend is cheating on her and decides to move into a loft apartment with three male roommates – prickly bartender NICK (Jake Johnson), womanizer SCHMIDT (Max Greenfield) and intense personal trainer COACH (guest-star Damon Wayans, Jr.). The guys, alongside Jess’ childhood best friend CECE (Hannah Simone), try to help Jess get back on her feet and into the dating world.

My Two Cents — Absolutely hilarious! Zooey Deschanel is perfect in this role and its as if this show was made just for her. I cannot wait for the rest of the season, and will be tuning in to watch the pilot again when it premiers on September 20th.

This Week on DVD (Week of 9/6)

I thought of another way to get more movie and television information to you each week! I know how you feel, I'm pretty pumped about this too. Each Tuesday I am going to create a list of DVD releases (both movies and television) that will be coming out that week - most being released on Tuesdays. I didn't want to do this monthly since some movies don't get release dates until last minute. Movies in green will be those that I will personally be purchasing and those in blue are those that I will rent first (and maybe buy after that) ;)
*Please note that this may not be a complete list.

To kick it all off, here are the releases for the week of September 6th.

Tuesday, September 6th
